Herito – \u00a0a bilingual English-Polish quarterly on Central European heritage and culture published by the International Cultural Centre<\/span><\/a>. It is our hope that it will come to be a unique forum for discussions on heritage, culture, our times, and the future. As a periodical it will focus on issues of locus and related reflections, on space and its various meanings, and on the geography of the imagination and of memory. The pretext for the topics it undertakes to examine is \u00a0Central European heritage, which has a heritage of experience and cultural dilemmas that are at once unique and highly relevant to contemporary debate.<\/p>\n

“Central Europe is a conscious choice, a question\u00a0of our world view, though also of our community\u00a0of experience \u2013 our own and that of our neighbours.\u00a0Herito is a further chapter in our fascination with\u00a0this very special region of the Old Continent, where\u00a0political borders have always changed faster than\u00a0cultural borders. Central Europe is not a territorial\u00a0region with clearly demarcated borders; it is our fortune.<\/p>\n

The Central European identity is founded on\u00a0contradictions that have combined repeatedly to produce\u00a0creative tension. The material and non\u2011material\u00a0fruit of this tension today is our common heritage,\u00a0the product of cultures, ideas and values accumulated\u00a0and fused over centuries. No less a part of this\u00a0heritage is our own memory and identity \u2013 for heritage\u00a0is nothing other than the use of the past to serve\u00a0contemporary\u00a0purposes”.<\/p>\n
