Art and Heritage in Central Europe<\/h1>

The SNG is dedicating a double exhibition to “its” architect Vladim\u00edr Dede\u010dek (1929\u20132020), the creator of great concepts and almost a hundred realisations, an important co-author of the appearance of modern Slovakia.<\/p>\n

The first, a cross-sectional exhibition “Vladim\u00edr Dede\u010dek \u2013 Past and Present” by the external curator Monika Mit\u00e1\u0161ov\u00e1, reaches beyond an overview of his life, projects, and constructions, to also present the spaces Dede\u010dek created and their contexts. It can also be seen as an extension of the discussion about the author’s architectural thinking, his work, and its interpretation that Monika Mit\u00e1\u0161ov\u00e1 began in her comprehensive 2017 publication.<\/p>\n

The second element in Alexandra Kus\u00e1\u2019s concept, “Vladim\u00edr Dede\u010dek and SNG: A Story From the Future”, <\/em>is devoted to the grounds of the Slovak National Gallery and combines an exhibition of architecture with institutional \u201carchaeology\u201d. You will learn the stories told about the SNG building and discover the reality, understanding how development of the institution and its premises forms part of the modernisation process, and part of the rebirth of Bratislava as a young metropolis.<\/p>\n

Construction of the national gallery was perceived controversially, and not only during its time. The strong architectural concept was the consequence of two personalities \u2013 Karol Vacul\u00edk, the SNG’s director, and Vladim\u00edr Dede\u010dek, its architect. The exhibition is available from 5 October 2024 to 2 February 2025.<\/p>\n
