Art and Heritage in Central Europe<\/h1>
\n

The \u00d6sterreichische Galerie Belvedere, together with the National Gallery of Slovenia, is presenting the main works of Slovenian painting from the Spring of Nations in 1848 until the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian state in 1918. The exhibition will be on show at the Lower Belvedere in Vienna.<\/p>\n

The exhibition focuses on the artistic characteristics of Slovenian art, which was based on decorative effects, symbolism and expressiveness, and occupies a unique place in the evolution of European painting. The often-ambivalent relationship of Slovenian artists with Austria will also be presented, as most of them spent at least part of their studies or careers in Graz or in and around Vienna.<\/p>\n

The catalogue and the exhibition will feature visual analysis and stylistic similarities between the artists, the connections between the Slovenian artists themselves, their parallels with Slovenian and European literati and with other, especially Austrian, artistic circles, also in terms of Viennese institutions and protagonists.<\/p>\n

Works by Jo\u017eef Tominc, Ivana Kobilca, Ferdo Vesel, Rihard Jakopi\u010d, Ivan Grohar, Matija Jama, Matej Sternen, August Berthold and others will be showcased alongside international masters such as Grohar’s role model Giovanni Segantini, the Viennese Tina Blau, the Maribor-born Anton Nowak, and Ernst St\u00f6hr, who lived in Bohinj.<\/p>\n

The exhibition is available in Vienna from 30 January to 25 May 2025.<\/p>\n
