International Women&#8217;s Year 1975&#8221;, curated by Wiktoria Szczupacka.<\/p>\n<p>This mosaic of different attitudes and aesthetics is a testament to the richness, diverse traditions and power of feminist art, which will be presented in parallel to the historic, monumental exhibition &#8220;The Female Question 1550\u20132025&#8221;<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The City of Women&#8221; offers a multitude of perspectives that refer to both well-known and established research topics related to art created by female artists, as well as trace the changes in current artistic sensibilities in this area. On the one hand, the project &#8220;Z trzewi&#8221; (&#8220;Gutsy&#8221;) employs aesthetic feminist artistic language and exhibition design that is also political, while on the other, in &#8220;Inne jutra&#8221; (&#8220;Other Tomorrows&#8221;), the\u00a0curators challenge established feminist norms. They seek to\u00a0complicate the\u00a0image of\u00a0art created by\u00a0female artists by\u00a0introducing fluid categories that cut\u00a0across binary identity divisions between he\u00a0and she. Wiktoria Szczupacka takes a\u00a0more academic approach, calling attention to\u00a0the overlooked history of\u00a0feminist emancipation in\u00a0communist Poland. Karolina Gembara presents an\u00a0activist point of\u00a0view, showing the\u00a0struggle for\u00a0reproductive rights from a\u00a0very contemporary perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition opens at a time when attention to women\u2019s rights in Poland is once again taking a back seat, and years of globalization and activism are not yielding the desired results. Gingeras, this exhibition challenges the notion that women were largely absent from art before the late 1800s. The nine-part visual narrative is a testament to the enduring and dynamic creativity of women artists over the last 500 years. The result is a collection of nearly 200 works, including paintings by Renaissance, Baroque and 19th-century women artists through more contemporary works, offering a centuries-long visual history of women\u2019s \u201cemancipation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a fallacy that women artists were rare exceptions before the 20th century. &#8220;The Woman Question&#8221;\u00a0demonstrates that women have consistently pursued their creative missions despite being often underappreciated and\u00a0operating against various social restrictions. Women have asserted their artistic presence while simultaneously using their art\u00a0to represent and\u00a0validate their individual experiences. In\u00a0addition to\u00a0showcasing a\u00a0diverse range of\u00a0artistic practices, the\u00a0exhibition aims to\u00a0show the\u00a0power inherent in\u00a0a feminist approach to\u00a0art history\u2014one that demands justice, restores the\u00a0voices of\u00a0the \u201cerased,\u201d and\u00a0leads to\u00a0a revision of\u00a0the so-called canon.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition showcases allegorical representations of power, resistance and sexual violence; it looks at the struggle for access to artistic education; representations of women\u2019s bodies and erotic desires; iconography of motherhood and reproductive choice; women\u2019s agency in times of war; and how the role of women in society changes dramatically in times of upheaval. &#8220;The Woman Question 1550\u20132025&#8221; brings together works by\u00a0almost 150\u00a0women artists, divided into nine thematic sections.<\/p>\n<p>Curator: Alison M.
