Art and Heritage in Central Europe<\/h1>

The Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum invites you for several exhibitions that are available this winter:<\/p>\n

– Tono Stano – exhibition available until 1 March 2026.<\/p>\n

Tono Stano is one of the most renowned photographers in Central Europe, with strong ties to the broader photographic and artistic world. Since the early 1980s, when he entered the art scene, his staged photographs in particular have attracted attention through their distinctive visuality, imagination, humor, and sophistication \u2013 qualities that have also influenced later generations of photographers both at home and abroad. In 1985, photography historian Daniela Mr\u00e1zkov\u00e1 commented that Tono Stano possessed a talent unseen in Czechoslovak photography for many years.<\/p>\n

Exhibition is part of the 35th annual Month of Photography series, which features 27 domestic and foreign exhibitions. More information can be found at www.mesiacfotografie.eu<\/p>\n

– Ivan Pavle. Wandering through the labyrinth – exhibition available until 8 February 2026<\/p>\n

Ivan Pavle is a most distinguished figure from the post-fifties generation of Slovak painters. He was born on 8 March 1955 in Galanta but grew up in Prievidza. In 1981 he graduated from the Department of Monumental Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (under Professors D. Castiglione and I. Vychlopen).
\nHe lives and works in Bratislava, focusing largely on his paintings and drawings, as well as sculptural creation, furniture design and, occasionally, illustrations. He has exhibited at prestigious galleries in Slovakia and abroad. His works can be found in public and private collections worldwide. He has attended several study stays, in particular, in the USA, Thailand and France, where he was awarded the Jury Prize at the International Festival of Painting at Cagnes-sur-Mer in 1989.<\/p>\n

– Adolf Hoffmeister. Cartoons | Illustrations | Collages – exhibition available until 8 February 2026<\/p>\n

Adolf Hoffmeister, a versatile artist and writer, was born in Prague in 1902. He entered grammar school as a founding member of the Dev\u011btsil avant-garde group and continued his studies at the Faculty of Law of Charles University. His first book of short prose and poems, Podmorsk\u00e9 hviezdy (The Underwater Stars) was published in 1922, followed by his first exhibitions in the M\u00e1nes exhibition hall in 1927 and in Paris in 1928. In the 1930s, he collaborated with the Osvobozen\u00e9 divadlo (Prague Free Theater) and the E. F. Burian Theatre, however, due to his anti-fascist stance, he was forced to emigrate to France. At the beginning of the war, he was imprisoned for several months, before fleeing to the USA, where he became the editor of the future Voice of America. In 1948 he was appointed ambassador to France, but was dismissed in 1951. After returning to his homeland, he was appointed professor at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), and devoted himself to writing and illustrating his own books. During Normalization, he was stripped of all of his positions and dismissed from public life. He died in July 1973 at a cottage in the village of \u0158\u00ed\u010dky.<\/p>\n
