Art and Heritage in Central Europe<\/h1>

Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum in Bratislava is now opening five new exhibitions, all available until March 19, 2023:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. “Tibor Borsk\u00fd. Hommage \u00e0 Mari\u00e1n Varga” (from 31 January 2023): Tibor Borsk\u00fd was born in Bratislava in 1939, studied in Bratislava and in Prague, specializing in artistic photography. He regularly photographed for the most important magazines in Czechoslovakia and exhibited at many collective and solo exhibitions in Slovakia and abroad. In 2019 Borsk\u00fd won the title Osobnos\u0165 slovenskej fotografie (Personality of Slovak Photography). The exhibition of his works in Danubiana presents photographs of composer and musician Mari\u00e1n Varga, either alone or with fellow musicians or composers.   2. “Martin Dzurek. Okamih” (from 31 January 2023): Martin Dzurek\u2019s art has developed over several decades. His artistic expression is abundant and wide-ranging; it includes monumental sculpture and painting along with sculptures of a chamber character. In recent years his artistic activities have been broadened by interactive installations and performance in which he combines music, theater, photography, literature and video.   3. “\u017dofia Dubov\u00e1. Mountains of Clouds” (from 31 January 2023): For many years, \u017dofia Dubov\u00e1 has dedicated herself to exceeding the limits of painting by stepping out of the painting format as well as transitioning to media such as glass and installation. In addition to studying the physical qualities of painting and the limits of the picture she has also recently been involved in studying natural atmospheric processes that have an ephemeral character. Waves, fog, clouds, snow, and hail had an impact on her latest series of paintings, in the same way that these forms of water create high mountain ranges.   4. “J\u00e1n \u0164ap\u00e1k. Balans” (from 3 February 2023): There are stories that last for a short period of time but have the energy of artistic thought. And there are stories that last for 33 years and contain the power of continuity. Both moments can be found in J\u00e1n \u0164ap\u00e1k\u2019s exhibition at the Danubiana, which is also a retrospective of his sculptural work.   5. “Igor Pia\u010dka. Tiger Riding” (from 3 February 2023): It\u2019s not a good idea to look directly into the eyes of a tiger, but now there is no other way. Igor Pia\u010dka has taken the head of this predator as the leitmotif of his jubilee exhibition at the Danubiana. The mesmerizing green eyes of this feline beast paralyze spectators as they slowly realize that the artistic ride with Igor won\u2019t be an idyllic walk through the sun-bathed \u010cunovo peninsula where the waves tenderly splash against its stone base. In this painting it is clear that the artist is open to the inspirations and influences of various art tendencies and media, sometimes operating on their borders.
