Writer, journalist, and expert on Central and Eastern Europe. He has four published books: “Przyjdzie Mordor i nas zje, czyli tajna historia Słowian” (Mordor’s Coming to Eat Us: A Secret History of the Slavs) (Ha!art, 2013), “Rzeczpospolita zwycięska” (The Triumphant Republic) (Wydawnictwo Znak, 2013), “Siódemka” (Highway No. 7) (Ha!art, 2015) and “Tatuaż z tryzubem” (Tattoo with a Trident) (Czarne, 2015). A refreshing voice in Polish literature, Szczerek’s first book, “Przyjdzie Mordor i nas zje, czyli tajna historia Słowian” (Mordor’s Coming to Eat Us: A Secret History of the Slavs), was highly acclaimed and won the prestigious Polityka Passport Award in 2013. The book was also nominated for the Nike Award and shortlisted for the Angelus Award. This is the first time that Ziemowit Szczerek’s writing has been published in English.
