Professor Emeritus at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, author of numerous translations of Polish literature into Japanese (works of Jan Kochanowski, Czesław Miłosz, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Witold Gombrowiczand others) as well as the first coursebook of Polish for the Japanese. In 2000–2004 he was vice-president of the “BRISTOL” As-sociation of Polish and foreign teachers of Polish culture and Polish as a foreign language. In 1998 he was awarded the Medalfor Merits to Polish Culture, 2007 the Diploma of the Foreign Minister for outstanding achievements in promoting Poland abroad and in 2009 the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
