Exhibition “Our Boys” at The Museum of Gdańsk
Art and Heritage in Central Europe
“Our Boys. Residents of Gdańsk Pomerania in the Army of the Third Reich” is the first monographic exhibition to comprehensively address the service of residents of Gdańsk Pomerania in the German army during World War II. The exhibition not only explores the causes, course, and consequences of the Third Reich’s mass recruitment in the region, but also raises important questions about the memory—and forgetting—of this phenomenon after 1945.
The exhibition focuses on soldiers from various parts of Pomerania. Their stories reveal the diverse individual experiences of serving in German military units. However, they share a common postwar reality: the fact that for decades they remained on the margins of the official historical narrative.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk and the Centre for Historical Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Berlin (Zentrum für Historische Forschung Berlin).
The exhibition is on view from July 12, 2025, to May 10, 2026 at Galeria Palowa w Ratuszu Głównego Miasta (Main Town Hall) in Gdańsk.
