A Belarusian historian. He graduated from the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute. From 1992 to 2005 he was a senior fellow of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. He is the author of the following books published also in Polish: “History of Belarus: From the earliest times to the end of the 18th century and Sources of historical memory of modern Belarus: The Return of Western Russianism”, as well as the founder and editor-in-chief of the periodical “Bielaruski Histaryčny Ahliad”, published since 1994. He is currently working at the University of Warsaw at the Centre for Belarusian Studies. In 2018, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences at the University of Warsaw.
