Exhibition “Borderlands of the Europe. From the treasury of the Lviv Historical Museum” in Lublin

Art and Heritage in Central Europe

Collections of the Lviv Historical Museum presented at the exposition invite you to travel in time and space. Dating back thousands of years, they show achievements of various civilisations, from which modern societies have developed. Among the exhibits are located relics of prehistoric cultures and Sumerian, Egyptian and Roman civilisations. Relics from the Middle Ages in the form of the encolpions, pendants and charms show mutual associations between different beliefs on premises of the ancient Rus. Ingeniously decorated armament and portraits of famous historical figures take us back to modern times. Orders from around the world complement the collections on display.

Full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2022 along with unpredictable missile attacks aimed at the civilians and cultural centres, poses a serious risk of destroying valuable relics of our shared cultural heritage. The presentation of the collections of the Lviv Historical Museum in Lublin not only performs popular science function but also protects valuable exhibits – we want our exhibition to connect achievements of culture and art of both countries and to integrate citizens from Poland and Ukraine with a sense of the benefits coming from common, centuries-old neighbourhood and cooperation.

The exhibition is available at the Museum of the Eastern Territories of the Old Polish Republic – Department of Lublin National Museum from 21 December 2024 to 2 March 2025.
