Art and Heritage in Central Europe

“The Potential of Prosopography for Historical and Art Historical Studies on the Charterhouses and the Carthusian Order” is an international conference to be held in Ljubljana, Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU) on 23-25 August 2023.

Submission deadline is 30 September 2022.

The conference invites applications from researchers who can shed light on the topic from a wide range of interdisciplinary perspectives and approaches. The objective is not to present definitive results but to propose an initial reflection on the methods and the possibilities of prosopographic research using the Carthusian order as a starting point and model. The first step is therefore to present the promising research perspectives in relation to the sources that can be used, how to use them and the possible results:
– either from an example already analysed,
– or from remarkable sources that may raise questions about their prosopographic treatment.
They invite participants to think about what they would expect from a prosopographic study and which “fields” they would like to see included in a general database of a given order. We will thus be able to consider together the following questions: is an overall prosopographic database of the order necessary? Is it possible?

Please send your proposals for papers that can be presented in about 30 minutes maximum in English, German, French, Spanish or Italian. The proposals should include the following: the title, an abstract of about 250 words, and a short CV of no more than a single page. Please submit your proposals to the conference e-mail address – cfp.uifs@zrc-sazu.si – by 30 September 2022. The selection of papers will be completed by 30 November 2022. Conference participants’ accommodation expenses and a visit to the Slovenian Charterhouses will be covered, though the participants will need to meet their own transport costs.
After the conference the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, France Stele Institute of Art History will coordinate the publication
of an edited monograph of papers presented at the conference.
