Worth a look
“Active Zone – Image, Space, Perspective” Exhibition at the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava
Art and Heritage in Central Europe
Zone in the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava is an educational space for visitors of all age categories, who like to explore, experiment, and want to learn more about interesting topics from fine art.
The theme of the third Zone, titled Active Zone – Image, Space, Perspective, is dedicated to techniques and principles which allow artists to achieve the impression of depth in the two-dimensional space of a flat picture. The exhibition thematises the presence, or the absence of perspective in various works from different eras of the history of fine art. It presents the principles of linear, one-point perspective, colour and aerial perspective, creation of depth by overlapping of object, and the principle of space plans.
Particular principles are shown on originals from the Slovak National Gallery collections from various eras of the history of fine art, from authors like Ľudovít Fulla, Ester Šimerová – Martinčeková, Franz Anton Maulbertsch Eugen Lehotský, and many others. Each of the principles is further clarified by educative, practical installations enabling the visitors to explore the particular topics independently, and to visualise regularities of space creation in images.
