Call for Papers: “Renaissance Principles and Their Early Modern Receptions: European Currents and Local Appropriations” (Prague, 11–12 June 2024)

Art and Heritage in Central Europe

The international two-day workshop for PhD students, post-docs and early career researchers focuses on  the Renaissance as the key to the transformation of European art and society on the threshold of modern times. The normative approach often left aside contemporary regionalisms or local appropriations living apart from the main European currents. The program is composed from the lectures with discussion (11th June) and guided tours (12th June): architecture tour in Prague and commented tour with the curator and author of the exhibition “From Michelangelo to Callot: The Art of Mannerist Printmaking” in the National Gallery Prague.

Organisers:  Institute of Art History Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague; CEFRES – French Research Centre in Humanities and Social Sciences, Prague; École pratique des hautes études – PSL (Paris, research university); Institute of Art History, Julius-Maximilians-Universität, Würzburg; Institute for Art History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague; National Gallery Prague.

Submissions are invited from those interested in active participation in the form of a proposal (max. 800 characters) by 10 May 2024 to the address: petrasova@udu.cas.cz. The organisers offer travel scholarship for the accepted participants. Additional information can be obtained from the same address. The length of the contribution should not be more than 20 minutes; the conference main language is English.
